Google AI Overviews and AI Mode both work in Arabic. Google added Arabic to AI Overviews in May 2025, when the feature launched in the Middle East and North Africa for the first time. Arabic came to AI Mode in October 2025. An Arabic search on Google can now show an AI answer above the normal results, with links to the pages it used. For brands in the Middle East, this changes how people find and click on content. The SEO work that helps a page rank also helps it appear as a source in these answers, with a few additions covered in this guide.
What Are AI Overviews and AI Mode?
AI Overviews are short answers written by AI that appear at the top of some Google search results. They summarise information from several web pages and link to those pages. They do not appear on every search, only where Google's systems decide a summary is useful.
AI Mode is a separate tab in Google Search and in the Google app. Users can ask longer questions and follow-up questions, by text, voice or image. AI Mode uses a technique Google calls query fan-out: it runs several related searches in the background and combines the results into one answer, with links. When it launched in Arabic, it was powered by Google's Gemini 2.5 model.
| AI Overviews | AI Mode | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it appears | At the top of normal search results | In its own tab in Google Search and the Google app |
| How people use it | A normal search | Longer questions and follow-up questions, by text, voice or image |

| October 2025 | AI Mode expands to 36 new languages, including Arabic. |
What AI Search Changes for Arabic SEO
Some publishers report fewer clicks on queries that show an AI Overview, because the answer is already on the results page. Google says its AI features lead people to search more and send higher quality clicks. The effect depends on the query: a simple factual question may lose clicks, while a complex question can still bring visitors who are ready to act.
AI answers also create a new place to be visible. A page that appears as a source link in an AI Overview can get visits even if it does not rank first in the normal results. For Arabic queries, competition for these links is often lower than in English, because there is less detailed Arabic content on most commercial topics. Our guide to Arabic AI search and GEO explains this opportunity for ChatGPT and Gemini as well.
How to Get Cited in Arabic AI Overviews
Google says there are no extra technical requirements for AI Overviews and AI Mode. To appear as a supporting link, a page must be indexed and eligible to show in Google Search with a snippet. After that, the content decides. These practices help Arabic pages get cited:
- Answer the main question in the first two or three sentences, in clear Modern Standard Arabic, then give the details.
- Use headings that match how people ask in Arabic, such as questions that start with كيف (how) or ما هو (what is).
- Put comparisons, prices, dates and steps in tables and lists, which are easy for AI systems to read and quote.
- Publish native Arabic pages. Machine-translated text often reads badly and contains errors, which makes it a weak source.
- Give each Arabic page its own URL and connect it to the English version with hreflang, as our guide to bilingual SEO explains.
- Add structured data that matches the visible content, such as Article, FAQPage, Product or Organization.
- Write your brand name the same way in Arabic and English across your site and profiles, so Google can connect the two. Our guide on how to translate a brand name into Arabic helps with this.
- Show dates and keep facts current. Prices, rules and statistics that are out of date are less useful as sources.
Also check that nothing blocks Google. Snippet controls such as nosnippet and max-snippet also apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode, so a page with nosnippet will not be used as a source.
How to Measure AI Overviews and AI Mode Traffic
Google Search Console includes AI Mode clicks, impressions and positions in the Performance report, under the Web search type, together with the rest of your Google search traffic. Clicks from AI Overviews are included as well. The report does not show AI traffic as a separate total, so measure it in other ways too:
- Watch the click-through rate for your main Arabic queries. A drop in CTR with stable impressions can mean an AI Overview now answers the query.
- Search your main questions in Arabic in each target country and record whether your pages appear as sources.
- Track branded searches and direct visits, which can rise when AI answers mention your brand.
- Track conversions from organic search, not only sessions, because visits from AI answers can be fewer but better qualified.
Google AI Search and Other AI Assistants
AI Overviews and AI Mode use Google's search index. ChatGPT, the Gemini app and Microsoft Copilot are separate products, and Copilot uses Bing search results. A complete Arabic AI visibility plan covers all of them. Start with Google, which has about 95% of searches in the region, as our guide to search engines in the Middle East shows.
Conclusion
Arabic AI Overviews and AI Mode reward the same things as good Arabic SEO: indexed pages, clear answers, native Arabic content and structured data.
